Supporting Women in Business Since 1926

In 1919, the Oklahoma State Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc. was founded. On January 7, 1926, the Lawton Business and Professional Women’s Club was founded. The name was later changed to Lawton Business Women’s Club on September 12, 2011.

A Symbol For Unity

The colors in our logo are pink and green. The pink symbolizes women and femininity. The green symbolizes unity and the sisterhood we share as members of this organization.

Committees

Standing Committees

Finance
Prepares an annual budget for the local organization, to have general supervision of all expenditures and to assist the local organization in developing a sound financial policy. Committee members collect money at luncheons and special events. This team consists of Chairman, Co-chair, and 3-5 team members.

Membership
Promotes, expands, stabilizes and orients the membership. This team also plans and coordinates Membership Drives and Membership 101 events, to help members learn more about the organization and its many committees. This team consists of Chairman, Co-chair, and 3-5 team members.

Legislation
Informs the local organization of current legislation related to the mission of LBW. This team consists of Chairman, Co-chair, and 1-3 team members.

Marketing
Promotes the local organization and its fundraising events to the community. This team consists of Chairman, Co-chair, and 3-5 team members.

Bylaws
Ensures the bylaws are correct, updates when changes need to be made, and keeps the local members informed as to what the bylaws mean. This team consists of Chairman, Co-chair, and 1-3 team members.

Nominating
Promotes, receives and coordinates nominations for the local officer election each year. This team consists of Chairman, Co-chair, and 1 team member.

Programs
Schedules and acts as liaison for Guest Speakers for Club Meetings. This team consists of Chairman, Co-chair, and 3-5 team members.

Special Committees

Scholarship
Makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for Club Scholarships.
This team consists of Chairman, Co-chair, and 3-5 team members.

Lawton Business Women’s Week
Honors the contributions of working women and employers who support working women and their families by planning activities during LBW Week. This team consists of a Chairman, Co-chair, and 3-5 team members.

Fellowship
Reports on members who are ill or have lost a loved one, and sends cards or other warm wishes from LBW in cooperation with the Communications Secretary. This team consists of a Chairman, Co-chair, and 3-5 team members.

Mentorship
Works in close cooperation with Cameron and Great Plains Technology Center to recruit and select applicants for the LBW Mentorship program. This team consists of a Chairman, Co-chair, and 3-5 team members.

Woman of the Year
Chooses a LBW member who has contributed greatly to the Club and the Lawton Fort Sill community. This team consists of the current Woman of the Year serving as Chairman, and members consist of all past recipients.

Fashion Show
Raises funds by coordinating the Fashion Show held in the Fall. The Chairperson oversees and coordinates all Fashion Show teams consisting of Vendor Coordinator, Sponsorship Coordinator, Models Coordinator, Programs Coordinator, Publicity Coordinator, Decorations Coordinator, Student Volunteers Coordinator, Facilities Coordinator and Treasurer Coordinator, plus several team members under each Coordinator.
